Biography
Egyptian-born (of Greek-Egyptian ancestry) Australian film director/writer/producer Alex Proyas. With a passion for film from an early age, Proyas’ early shorts were acclaimed, including numerous outstanding short film awards and nominations at London, Melbourne, Cannes et al international film festivals.
He has forged an influential career with feature films equal in measure as cult and commercial successes, from his first feature, 'Spirits', 'The Crow', 'Dark City', 'Garage Days', followed by 'I, Robot' starring Will Smith, & 'Knowing' starring Nicolas Cage, and his most recent feature 'Gods of Egypt'.
His recent short films have also been lauded, including 'Strange Nostalgia', best experimental film in numerous film festivals, and 'Mask of the Evil Apparition' another success on the festival circuit with numerous best film and best director awards.
Proyas lives in Sydney with his wife and daughter, is in preproduction on his next feature 'R.U.R.' based on the classic play by Karel Capek and is planning an episodic series continuing the 'Dark City' saga.
