Biography
Shontell Leah Ketchell is an emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screenwriter and producer from Cairns, Far North Queensland. She completed her Advanced Diploma in Screenwriting: Feature Film at AFTRS in 2019. Shontell has contributed to a range of notable projects, including participating in the ABC's Black Comedy season four writers’ workshop. Her first feature film screenplay, Adorkable, which she wrote and is producing, secured development funding from Screen Queensland and Screen Australia.
In 2021, Shontell wrote and produced the short documentary Naytive for the ABC and also produced and featured in Sistas in Mining for SBS/NITV. She wrote for the NITV children’s show Barrumbi Kids and recently associate produced and co-wrote the ABC comedy series Gold Diggers.
In 2024, Shontell wrote and produced on SBS Food’s Taste of the Tropics, script consulted on ABC’s Troppo (season 2) and Prime/BBC’s Ghosts, and is developing the YA series Saltwater Warriors with Fremantle Media/Lone Star Productions. She is currently participating in Screenworks’ Producer Elevator Program and the SPA x SBS Producer Program, continuing her journey to bring Indigenous stories to the forefront of Australian media.
