Biography
Rae Choi is a Chinese-Australian filmmaker with a background in law and community arts. As a producer, she is known for her dedication to ambitious projects, including filming an independent feature film across Australia, Italy and France on 16mm. She has been supported by programs with Screen Australia, Screen Queensland, For Film’s Sake, AFTRS and PlatformBUSAN (South Korea), and her films have screened internationally and been broadcast in the UK and Australia.
Rae’s debut short as writer/director, WHEN THE SKY WAS BLUE (2021), was nominated for an AWGIE and a SPA Award, and is now available to stream on SBS on Demand. She went on to co-write and produce VIV’S SILLY MANGO (2022) for ABC ME and Screen Australia’s joint initiative The Kaleidoscope Project.
Rae was a 2023 recipient of Screen Australia's Enterprise program during which she was mentored by Donna Chang and Andrea Denholm, and is the development producer at Good Apples Pictures. Previously, she’s worked with the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Matchbox Pictures, Australian Children’s Television Foundation, and Momo Film Co. (Singapore).
Devoted to personal storytelling with curiosity and compassion, Rae is in post-production on her latest short inspired by her discovery that she is hard-of-hearing, and is developing several long-form projects.
