Carmel Travers is an award-winning writer, producer and director across documentary, scripted drama and children’s content, with over three decades’ experience. She has founded and run production companies including Beyond International, Energee Entertainment, Essential Media and Entertainment, and Pop Family Entertainment, with credits including Beyond 2000, Climate in Crisis, Mythbusters, Alien TV, Wicked, Crocadoo, Gloria’s House, The Magic Pudding, Bubble Bath Bay, My Freaky Family and The Correspondent. Her awarded works include Red Flag Over Tibet, Refugee Like Me Truth, Lies and Intelligence, The Correspondent, My Freaky Family and Alien TV
In 2018, Carmel formed Pop Family Entertainment, building a broad factual and scripted slate. In 2024, Pop released its first CGI animated feature which screened across 250 Australian cinemas and internationally (Germany, France, Italy, UK).
In 2025, Carmel produced The Correspondent, preselected for Venice Biennale and the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and was selected as Opening Film at the Adelaide Film Festival. It received 14 AACTA Awards nominations (winning Best Screenplay, Best Lead Actor and Best Art Direction); 7 Film Critics Circle nominations (winning 2); plus winning AWG Award (Best Screenplay), ADG Award (Best Production Design), Casting Guild Award (Best Casting), holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a Screen Producers Australia Best Feature Film Production nomination.
