THE CHANGING FACE OF INTERNATIONAL TV DISTRIBUTION

With the continued rise of SVOD platforms globally, the TV distribution landscape and the traditional role of the international TV distributor is changing.

This masterclass will look at new and evolving avenues for exploitation and the deal terms to be considered when negotiating a distribution agreement for rest of world sales of an original Australian scripted or unscripted TV series.

Dan Pearce, General Counsel at Holding Redlich, will review:

  • how to balance the expectations of the local commissioner, the investors and the distributor regarding sales outside Australia;

  • how to negotiate commission and expense terms;

  • possible approaches to subsequent seasons and spin-offs;

  • details on managing clearances within the Australian industrial framework;

  • reconciling approval rights of various funders;

  • and tailoring termination and takeover rights.

We will be joined by a panel of distributors representing Australian titles across the globe to talk about the role they are now playing - beyond distribution - when it comes to developing, financing and producing a TV series.

We will also hear from prolific Australian producers actively financing in the international marketplace with an in-depth look at new distribution models and discuss both the challenges being faced as well as the opportunities on offer for both the producer and the distributor.
