Biography
Chris Carter is an Associate Professor of animation and the recently appointed Associate Dean (Digital Design) at RMIT. Dr Carter has extensive experience in research leadership and consultancy related to Virtual Production. Dr Carter was previously the Head of Film, Screen and Animation at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane where he led the establishment of Virtual Production as a research and teaching activity. Through his involvement as a chief investigator and research theme leader in QUT Creative Lab, Dr Carter has worked to build Virtual Production capacity in QLD by overseeing the procurement and installation of the Virtual Production systems at QUT. Additionally, he has established a network of researchers and professionals in the field of Virtual Production through strategic supervision of multiple PhD research projects focussed on different aspects of the Virtual Production pipeline including cartoon-stylised human movement, immersive performance environments, human photogrammetry and real-time VR animated film making. Now at RMIT, Dr Carter is focussing on strengthening RMIT’s Virtual Production capacity, industry partnerships and future focussed education in the many fields that make up Virtual Production.
