Biography
Ling Ang is a multimedia artist and producer across a diverse array of international productions. Releasing work that was rooted in a documentary language, she focused on exploring contemporary themes and topics with a strong narrative format. In her iPhone shot production ‘PALOMO’ (2018), she showcased the chaos leading up to an up-and-coming Spanish brand’s largest fashion show held in Madrid. Awarded for ‘Best Director of a Short Documentary’ at the 2018 Madrid International Film Festival and ‘Best Documentary Short’ at the 2018 London Independent Film Awards.

Throughout the 2020-2021 lockdowns, Ling went on to publish a book and present large-scale installations as part of the NGV Design Week, titled ‘Souvenirs of Sleep’. The project shared a written archive of lucid dreams that were documented over several years. For its launch, Ling was given the opportunity to produce an immersive experience in the virtual production studio at the Alex Theatre. Guests were guided through the theatre to explore the narratives of her book in a surreal format. It was this experimentation with virtual production that forged her deep interest in where the future of storytelling may go, as film and gaming converge.

This curiosity in how XR could work between the physical and digital worlds, led to Ling’s continual endeavour towards understanding its potential and use. In 2021 Ling supported the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) to develop their first XR platform for VR headsets and web. For 2022 she designed a physical instalment for MIFF at ACMI.
