11-12 OCTOBER 2022 | 9:00AM - 5:00PM (AEDT) | ONLINE

COURSE OVERVIEW

You’ve got a great TV show, it’s been through several stages of development and – finally – it’s time to sell it. So, what are the next steps?

This two-day intensive course is designed to prepare early and mid-career producers, who are working towards selling a show but haven’t yet attended a market. Attendees must have at least one market-ready scripted TV project (or a slate of projects) to reference throughout the course.

The course will provide valuable insights that will help to close a gap in producers' knowledge and provide them with confidence as they take what can often be a daunting step into the marketplace to finance their projects.

The course will consist of theory and practical exercises with guest speakers joining Tutor, Michelle Hardy (SPA Industry Program Consultant).

Topics include:

  • how to assess the viability of a project for market
  • a snapshot of the top domestic and international scripted TV markets
  • your market strategy and end goal
  • finance plans, understanding the gap and how to fill it
  • rights and how to sell them
  • creating sustainable relationships with the right people
  • current marketplace intel
  • pitch materials
  • the pitch

The 20-min Market Pitch Meeting

Six students will be given the opportunity to participate in a simulated 20-minute market meeting where they will pitch their project to course tutor Michelle Hardy and screenwriter/producer at Whoa Bandit Productions and ex-ABC Head of Comedy, Rick Kalowski.

The students will be randomly selected on the first morning of the course and pitch meetings will take place the following afternoon. Fellow students who aren’t pitching will have the opportunity to watch each of the meetings and learn from the feedback provided.

Once registered, if you would like to have the opportunity to practice your pitch during the course and receive feedback, please email the course convenor HERE with the name of your project by 12:00pm AEDT on 10 October 2022.
