COURSE OVERVIEW

THURSDAY, 18 JUNE 2026 | 9:00AM - 5:00PM (AEST) | ONLINE

Screen Business Essentials: Navigating Growth, held in conjunction with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS),  provides a practical, real-world guide to provide early to mid-career producers with a deep dive into option and co-development agreement deal terms plus finance plans and recoupment waterfalls for feature film and long-form scripted TV.

Legal and finance decisions made at the very beginning of a project will impact the life of the project for many years—even decades—to come. Knowing your rights and being well-informed and strategic is essential to ensuring maximum returns on both a creative and financial level.

  • Explore key deal terms and considerations when optioning a project.

  • Analyse the structure of a co-development agreement.

  • Develop strategies for protecting your investment and partnering for success.

  • Learn the strategy behind creating a finance plan for a $5M feature film and a 6 x 1hr TV series.

  • Identify current buyers in the marketplace and what sort of deals they are doing.

  • Understand the expectations of equity investors and what they will receive in return.
