Understanding the business behind screen production is essential to building a sustainable career and successful production business.
Screen Business Essentials returns this October for a two-day online intensive, presented in conjunction with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Designed for producers looking to establish, strengthen or grow their screen business, the course brings together industry experts to provide practical guidance across the legal, financial and commercial fundamentals of production.
Across two days, you'll explore the complete screen business landscape, including:
- IP, rights and chain of title, from acquiring underlying materials through to rights acquisition contracts
- Establishing a screen business, including business and production structures, taxation, compliance and business planning
- Screen incentives and offsets, including how to budget for and finance the Producer, Location and PDV Offsets
- Employment responsibilities, covering cast and crew agreements, employment law and SPA's industrial agreements
- Production financial management, including budgets, cashflow, completion bonds, insurance, payroll and cost reporting
- Production, financing, distribution and licensing agreements
- Building your business for the future, from developing your slate and accessing development funding to market strategy, sales planning and company branding
